Remember the venerable Strat? Considering what little artistry went into that guitar it sure
had a sound that you could take to work, and it still does. Now I'm not knocking Gibson and
all the other two pup guitars. There are lots of guitars that have great sounds. But for
versatility, I think the Strat them all beat. So,
when it comes to choosing a bass setup, why re-invent the wheel?
So I decided to use the three pup system but with just a couple tweaks to the controls. What
I ended up with just takes the Strat versatility up a notch to a new level.
The Bartolini two pickup system has two channels that are merged into the tone controls. So
I use the neck pickup for one channel and gang the center and bridge for the other channel.
The two switches provide on/off capability for the center and bridge and also phasing for the
bridge. This switching, combined with the dual volume controls (or a pan) provide the capability
to get about any sound you can imagine.
